Finding Calm through Colour

I think you can learn a lot about a person by the way they describe their perfect day.

For me, it would begin with a walk along the beach, followed by a steamy cup of fragrant coffee — a caramel latte, if I’m choosing — at a seaside café. There would be unhurried time with my family and grandkids, and, of course, plenty of hours spent in my little art studio. I’d end the day curled up with a good book.

Simple. Quiet. Perfect.

Real life, of course, doesn’t always look like that.

Most days are full and messy, sometimes tiring or disheartening — a bit like scribbles on a page. And that’s where art comes in. For me, creating isn’t just something I enjoy; it’s a form of self-care. It’s a way to slow down, to breathe, and to find calm in the middle of ordinary, imperfect days.

Over the years, I’ve explored different art styles and mediums, enjoying the process but always feeling like something was missing. Then I discovered coloured pencil work — and everything clicked. I fell in love with the depth, softness, layering and detail that coloured pencils allow. I’ve learned a lot through online classes and countless hours of practice, working mainly with Polychromos pencils (though I still have a soft spot for buttery-smooth Prismacolors). I also create digitally using Procreate, which gives me another way to explore colour and design.

My work is inspired by colour, quiet moments, and the beauty found in everyday life. If you’d like to take a look around, I’d love for you to explore my designs and see what speaks to you.
